The eleventh edition of the Prima Champions Cup 2017 under 15 Inter District and Inter Provincial tournaments organized and conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in partnership with the Prima group gets underway in Colombo and the outstations today.
The tournament will see the participation of over 600 players from all round the country.
Altogether 39 teams will battle against each other and the best players from these district teams will be selected for the provincial teams. The district matches are currently being played and will conclude on September 15.
Twelve provincial teams will then compete for the provincial championship which will commence on September 20. The five provincial teams which will participate in the tourney are from the Northern Province representing Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi.
The final matches will worked off on October 6 and 7 at the SSC grounds.
This year’s tournament will help the youngsters to gain confidence and experience which will stand them in good stead in the future. With the purpose of showcasing the players’ cricketing talent the final match will be telecast live on TV.
Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Niroshan Dickwella and Binura Fernando who are now members of the national cricket team, have participated in the Prima Champions Cup in addition to Anuk Fernando, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Priyamal Perera, who represented the Under 19 national cricket side.
