NADA’s President Professor Arjuna de Silva said that the banned substance test was done by taking players’ urine samples, but World Anti Doping Agency has decided to do it by taking blood samples in the future.

According to the new system, the players will not have a chance of taking part if they are found guilty of using banned substances as a result of the blood tests will be available immediately, he said.

Urines samples of more than 100 players have been obtained to find out whether they have taken banned substances and one player’s samples has tested positive. He is a member of the 4x400 national relative and the disciplinary committee had been asked to take action against him. Inquiries are being held into 11 more athletes.

Recently, an act was passed in Parliament with the intention of punishing those competitors who are found guilty of taking banned substances, they will be fined between 5-10 lakhs or imprisonment for two years.
