Under-19 Div. ‘A’ Basketball commences from Sept. 2

All Island under-19 Division ‘A’ Basketball Championship 2017 organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Association and sponsored by ‘ThePapare.com’ for the second consecutive year will be held from September 2 to 17 in six Colombo venues.

Twenty seven schools including twenty boys’ and twelve girls’ schools have confirmed their participation for this year’s tournament.

Teams from Good Shepherd Convent, Gateway College Colombo, Presbyterian Girls School, Ave Maria Convent Negombo, Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya, St Joseph’s Girls School Nugegoda, Lyceum International School Wattala and Visakha Vidyalaya will compete for the girls’ crown.

St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa, St. Thomas College Mount Lavinia, Colombo International School, Asian International School Colombo, St. Benedict’s College Kotahena, De Mazenod College in Kandana, Royal College Colombo, D. S. Senanayake College Colombo, Gateway College Colombo, Maris Stella College Negombo, Lyceum International School Wattala, Ananda College Colombo, Gateway College Kandy, St. Joseph’s College Colombo, De La Salle College, Colombo International School Kandy, St. Joseph’s College Wattala and Kingswood College Kandy will battle for the boys’ title.

The girls’ tournament will dribble off at Gateway College, Colombo and Good Shepherd Convent on September 2, 7.00 while the boys’ tournament will commence at S.Thomas` College Mt. Lavinia, Gateway College – Rajagirya and St. Joseph’s College, Maradana on September 5, 7. 00 a.m. The top four teams from four groups will feature in the knock out quarter finals onwards and the final will be played under lights at the Henry Pedris Stadium on September 17.

ThePapare Basketball Championship was initiated in 2016 with the aim to uplift the standard of school basketball in the island. St. Thomas College Mount Lavinia emerged champions while St. Joseph College Maradana became boys’ runner-up last year. Good Shepherd Convent won the girls’ title beating St. Joseph’s Girls’ school Nugegoda in 2016 girls’ final.
