St. Anthony’s College, Kandy advanced to the semi final of the ‘Singer Cup’ Under 17 division I inter schools cricket tournament.
Antonians beat defending champions St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa by 4 wickets in the quarter final played at Kadirana stadium Negombo yesterday.
Thamashana Abekoon, deputy skipper of St. Anthony’s came up with a good all-round performances capturing 3/31 and with a knock of unbeaten 35 runs.
St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa won the toss and decided to bat were restricted to 135 runs in 45.3 overs. Skipper Nishitha Abilash scored 54 runs and Lahiru Fernando scored 26 runs. Gihan Achintha took 4/20 and Thamashana Abekoon took 3/31.
Antonians reached the winning target in 38.3 overs with four wickets intact. Navodya Wijekumara scored unbeaten 36 runs and Thamashana Abekoon scored unbeaten 35 runs. Praveen Cooray took 4/23 and Tharindu De Silva took 2/26. Navodya Wijekumara and Thamashana Abekoon made 73-run unbroken stand for the 7th wicket.
