102nd Tennis Nationals and Junior Nationals:
Innthujan Selverathnaraja and Udayachandra Srinath won the boys’ under-18 doubles title beating Nuwantha Dissanayaka and Praneel Jasinghe 6/1, 6/1 in the finals at the 102nd Tennis Nationals and Junior Nationals continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts yesterday. The winners defeated Nadil Silva and Ravindu Weerasinghe 6/4, 6/2 in the semi-finals while Nuwantha and Praneel edged out Vibuda Wijebandara and Vinuja Wijebandara 6/2, 7/6(2) in the other semi-final to qualify for the title clash.
Being the top seed, Innthujan with his partner Udayachandra continued their winning spree from the beginning beating their opponents in straight sets throughout the tournament. They tamed Kithmin de Silva and Mihindu Samarasinghe 6/3, 6/2 in quarters.
Ashen and Vinuja U-16 doubles champs
Meanwhile Ashen Silva and Vinuja Wijebandara bagged the boys’ under-16 doubles crown beating Akith Gunawardane and Thevinda Piyadigama 6/3 6/4 in the final. Top seed Ashen partnered by Vinuja displayed some superb skills to reign unbeaten throughout the tournament and overcame Nenuka Jayathilaka and Kavisha Ratnayaka 6/4, 6/0 in the semi-finals. Akith and Thevinda had the better of Vhimalshanth Chandramohan and Luca Knese 6/4, 6/2 in the other semi-final before they earned a hard fought victory in quarters against Sean Sanderson and Dushan Wijetunga 6/0, 6/7(4), 10/6.
