Former Football Federation chief Bodhi Liyanage dies at 69

B.M. Bodhi Liyanage Ex DIG, former president of the Sri Lanka Football Federation who stood up for sports and police work died last morning.

He was 69 years old. Popularly known as Bodhi he became the first president of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka from Kandy representing Kandy Football League. A product of Mahinda College Galle, he gave a big hand for sports in Kandy. He started his police career as an ASP and ended as a senior DIG.

At football he was the luckiest president for it was during his tenure the much needed Football House was opened.

He did a lot to popularise junior football, by helping youth development with the backing of Manilal Fernando.

Later he became the president of Kandy Football League, Sri Lanka Football, Kandy Youth Sport Club, and served in the committee of Kandy Sports Club, Kandy District Cricket Association, and Central Province Cricket Association.

Bodhi was just as willing to stand up to good work in the sporting field and police duty, while in Kandy he helped everyone and had great control.

He will be cremated on Sunday at 4 pm in Kandy at the General Cemetery, Mahiyawa.
