Weightlifters do Mahamaya Girls School proud

Four weightlifters of Mahamaya Girls College,Kandy have done extremely

well at the All Island Weightlifting contest which was held on 27th November, 2021 at the Dippitiya Royal College for the year 2020. All four girls emerged victorious in their respective weight classes, organized by the Sri Lanka Weight Lifting Federation and the four girls are as follows:

Maneesha Karunaratne – who participated in the Under 18 - 55 Kg. Weight class securing the first place and adjudged the ‘Best Lifter’ of the Meet lifting a full total of 115 Kg.

Iresha Senaratne – secured the second place in the Under 16 -45 Kg. Weight class lifting a full total of 50 Kg.

Sethmini Epitawela – secured the second place in the Under 16 – 47 Kg. Weight class lifting a full total of 47 Kg.

Devindu Dissanayake – secured the second place in the Under 18 – 81 kg. Weight class lifting a full total of 81 Kg.

They were coached by Srimali Samarakoon and Nadeeka Bandara, two talented Weightlifti ng coaches of Mahamaya Girls School,Kandy. After these victories the four girls were felicitated at the School premises by the Principal and Staff of Mahamaya. The present Principal of the School Sashikala Senadheera, Prefect of games Nilu Wijekoon, both old girls of the School,Teacher in charge, Thamara Warakagoda were present on the occasion.
