Ishara and Senura top seeds of senior TT Nationals

Women’s top seed Ishara Madurangi and Men’s top seed Senura Silva

The seven time National champion Ishara Madurangi and 16-year-old Senura Silva are named top seeded women’s and men’s players at the 74th National senior Table Tennis Championship which is scheduled to commence tomorrow (4) at Bandaragama Sports Complex.

The Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka (TTASL) is expected to conduct this two-day major event with strict health regulations for safely.

Madurangi the 31-year-old most experienced paddler from Sri Lanka Port Authority is expected to repeat her performance while number two seeded player of the women’s singles category Muthumali Priyadharshani who created history when she entered the pre-quarter-finals of the Women’s Singles event at the last Asian Table Tennis Championship also a strong contender for this event. Bimandee Bandara the 15-year- old paddler from Hillwood College Kandy who was the junior national champion last week also among the first five paddlers of the event.

Meanwhile, 16-year- old Senura Silva of Ananda College won the junior National champion title three times in a row with bottom seed Krishan Wickramaratne, Chameera Ginige, Milinda Lakshitha are leading paddlers of the men’s singles event. Senura is in top form also looking to get his maiden National title in this tournament.

The events of men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles will be conducted in this two-day tournament. After the finals on the second day (Dec 5) the awards ceremony will be held at the same venue with the participants of TTASL officials headed by President, State Minister Kanaka Herath. Last time in the 73rd Senior National Championship Udaya Ranasinghe and Hansani Piumila emerged as men’s and women’s champions.
