The 20-year- old paceman, Abbas Afridi finished with figures of 4 for 30 as Pakistan ‘A notched up an easy six wickets win over Sri Lanka ‘A’ in their first One Day cricket match of the three-match series played at Dambulla International cricket stadium yesterday.
Pakistan ‘A’ chasing a target of 103 made it easy with 27.4 overs to spare losing four wickets to seal their victory. Openers Omair Yusuf 38 with six fours and Abdullah Shafique 15 with two fours made a slow start adding 38 runs in 10.3 overs while Agha Salman (12) and Mohammad Taha (19) added an unbroken fifth-wicket 27 runs stand to finish the game early to take the 1-0 series lead. Off-spinner Ashian Daniel was the only successful bowler with 2 for 30 while Pulina Tharanga and Lahiru Samarakoon shared one wicket apiece.
Earlier Sri Lanka ‘A’ skipper Kamindu Mendis top-scored 34 with three fours and a six while Sahan Arachchige 23 with three fours were the only successful batters while others failed to impress with the bat. Paceman Afridi was leading the way to struggle the innings while opening bowlers Naseem Shah 2 for 26 and Khurram Shahzad 3 for 19 did early damage as the wicket fell at regular intervals.
The two teams will meet their second ODI tomorrow (13) at the same venue.
