
Asitha Wanninayake played School Cricket as a left handed opening batsman cum right arm off spinner for his alma mater St.Anthony's College Kandy 1st XI team in the inter schools ‘A’ Division Cricket tournament. Then he also had the unique record of representing the Sri Lanka national under 15 team.
At present he is turning out for Kurunegala YCC in the ‘A’ Division inter club cricket tournament as a talented all rounder. Speaking to Daily News Asitha said “In my childhood I used to go and watch
my elder brother’s cricket matches with my Mother and Father. We went to watch those matches wherever it was. As I think my brother was the main reason why I entered the world of sports.
“ If I have to list out the supporters who have supported me then its, my mother, father and my brother stays on the top. Also my relatives, friends also helped me a lot.. They were with me all the time supporting me right throughout. Hence i'm always grateful to all of them“.
” I choose Cricket because of my brother and he was the main reason that I got into play this awesome game of cricket.”. “Throughout my entire life my family stays on the top of my priority list and it will remain forever. And cricket too has the same weight as it has already become a part of my life.”.
“ When i think of unforgettable memories in my carrer representing Sri Lanka Under15 national team hits my mind straightaway as it was one of my very first achievements. And also Iscored 56 runs in my big match debut & also managed to put 86 runs on the board along with my opening partner. “I prefer playing cricket & watching cricket in my leisure time and for me that’s the most amazing thing to do when im free. And also I manage my studies as well”.
My appachchi always supports me to balance both cricket and education. He is a person who has a good vision on me and he shows me the right way to go and keeps my back all the time. I can remember the moment i got my O/L results with flying colors (8-A's and 1- B) his eyes was shining with joy,
proud, love and everything. To be honest I really cherished that beautiful moment”
“To be honest I really like traveling. Whenever iget a chance to travel, i grab that chance at once. In Sri Lanka my favourite holiday destination is Nuwara Eliya and I like to go their because of that cool & peaceful climate makes me feel more relaxed. On the other hand i have an idea to visit the Lords cricket ground In England which is simply called the home of cricket”.. “I have got a few role models and I just watch them but i do not feel like imitating them because i am more comfortable being myself”.
