Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will retain Mickey Arthur as their head coach of the National team during the upcoming series against West Indies scheduled to commence later this month.
Chief Executive Officer Ashley de Silva speaking to ‘Daily News; confirmed this and said: “Mickey and the rest of the coaching staff will continue their role with the National team until the end of the West Indies tour. Any further changes will be done by the SLC administration according to the stipulated protocols.”
Mickey Arthur was appointed in December 2019 as the new head coach of the National team by SLC replacing interim coach Rumesh Ratnayake. After Chandika Hathurusingha’s dismal performance at the last World Cup in England, the SLC administration was compelled to take action to prevent the National team from falling further into the doldrums. They initially appointed Rumesh Ratnayake as interim coach for the Pakistan tour but was later replaced by Mickey Arthur as the permanent national coach for two years, which ends in December this year.
Mickey Arthur is likely to be contracted by English county Derbyshire according to some reports appearing in social media recently, which he is yet to confirm. (AN)
