
Pulasthi Dassanayake - a tremendous forward who played a terrific game in the loose, played school rugby for his alma mater St. Anthony’s College Kandy. He represented the Sri Lanka national under 19 squad in the Junior Rugby Asiad with distinction.Then he went on to represent CH and FC in the inter club rugby tournament with flying colours. Presently he is playing for the Navy sports club rugby team.
Speaking to Daily News all the way from Kandy, Pulasthi said “My journey into the world of sports started from my childhood and my dream was to be a rugby player, because my favourite sport is rugby.
“I have been guided and supported by a lot of people. Especially my parents, Re.Fr. Araliya Jayasundara, Rev. Fr. Principal Henry Wijeratne, my school teachers, my coaches Priyantha Gunaratne Suranga Kodithuwakku, Nihal ‘Viper’ Gunaratne, late Milroy Mendis, Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa, Yoshitha Rajapaksa, Rohitha “Chichi” Rajapaksa, Thevita Thulagaese “Laga”, my childhood friend Samuel Maduwantha, all my friends of 2016 A/L batch at SACK, Arunda Ranasinghe, Dinesh Bamunusinghe (MIC), Savarymuththu, also Vikum Jayasooriya, not forgetting Dhammika Medagedara and Udani, hence I’m always grateful to all of them”. “International rugby games made me choose the sport of rugby and it was also my favourite game”.

“Throughout my entire life my priorities are my family, friends and playing the game of rugby.”. “One of the most unforgettable incidents was when I got selected for St.Anthony's College under 19 school rugby team and was able to wear the first XV rugby jersey with pride and represent my beloved school team. I really love to remember it. Also the day I wore the CH and FC rugby Jersey and played successfully representing my club team CH and FC. Hence all these incidents will always be in my memory right throughout my life as one of the most unforgettable incidents to date”. “I spend my free time going on adventure trips with my friends and watching international rugby matches.
Also I like to listen to music and my favourite singer is Rookantha Gunathilake who is also an old boy of our school St.Anthony's and my favourite holiday destination is Nuwara Eliya”.
“My favourite rugby player is Siya Kolisi, the skipper of the South African national rugby team”.
“My greatest accomplishments are representing my beloved School first XV rugby team St.Anthony's College Kandy and getting selected for the Sri Lanka national under 19 squad”
“I do believe in what I can do and settle to do so”.
“The best compliment that I got was when I was selected to the CH and FC club rugby team as a schoolboy after playing the school rugby season in 2017 for St.Anthony's College Kandy”.
“I like to describe myself as a honest and dedicated person right throughout my whole life”.
On a concluding note Pulasthi said “My achievements thus far make me really happy at such a young age and with self improvement, I want to achieve my life goal through success”.
