Former ACUSL President Saman Amarasinghe dies

Former Cricket umpire and ex President of the Association of the Cricket Umpires Sri Lanka (ACUSL) Saman Amarasinghe passed away and his funeral took place yesterday according to Covid 19; regulations.

Amarasinghe a distinguished old Boy of Royal College later did fine service as a Royal teacher and was involved with Royal College sports in various capacities. He was the master in charge of Royal cricket, boxing, Basketball and Rugby.

He rendered yeoman service to the Sports Ministry after he retired from the Royal College. Former Secretary General of the Sports Council of Sri Lanka Schools and Ministry of Education was the founder chairman of the Presidential Sports Awards and he was the first Sports Ombudsman at the Presidential Sports Awards.

He had a good knowledge about cricket umpiring also worked as a Instructor and a match referee. He was one time Director of the National Youth Service Council Maharagama Amarasinghe later was appointed Chairman and Director at the National Sports Museum at the Sports Ministry where he served until his death .

Saman Amarasinghe leaves behind his beloved wife Nelum, son Inura and daughter Irudini .

As a sports administrator Saman Amarasinghe's death is an irreparable loss for Sri Lankan sports.
