Shakib makes history as Australia suffer record low

Bangladesh Team celebrates with the Trophy

Shakib Al Hasan’s four for nine and Mohammad Saifuddin’s three for 12 paved the way for a 60-run win in the fifth and final T20I that ensured a 4-1 series win for Bangladesh against Australia at Mirpur on Monday.

Bangladesh presented an unwavering spirit to successfully defend 123 runs as the hosts bowled Australia out for 62 in the 14th over.

There was history made for both sides, with Australia posting their lowest ever score in a completed Men’s T20I innings and Shakib becoming the first Men’s T20I player to achieve the 100-wicket-1,000-run-double.

The opening stand of 42 runs between Mahedi Hasan and Mohammad Naim provided impetus to the Bangladesh innings with a run-rate of over 10 for the first four overs but the middle-order couldn’t capitalise on the quick start.

In their chase, Australia were bowled out for 62 runs in no time as batters No.5 through to 11 all perished in single digits.

Chief scores

Bangladesh: 122/8 in 20 overs (Mohammad Naim 23, Nathan Ellis 2/16, Dan Christian 2/17)

Australia: 62 in 13.4 overs (Matthew Wade 22, Shakib Al Hasan 4/9, Mohammad Saifuddin 3/12). (Agencies)
