Football Sri Lanka (FSL) have made arrangements for the national football squad to have a special 16-day training camp in Qatar in preparation for the SAFF Tournament in October.

President, FSL Jaswar Umar had discussions with the President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Al Thani and sought his assistance to permit the national footballers to train in a residential camp in Doha for over two weeks.

“This special training session was organised due to the COVID-19 pandemic and as the footballers are unable to conduct their training due to the lockdown.”

“They need to be provided with specialised training with advanced technical facilities for the South Asian Championships in the Maldives.”

“With this, we will be signing several MoU’s with the QFA for our players to train along with the Qatar National Team.”

The 27-member squad and 11 coaching staff members will leave for Doha on September 8.

The team will then travel from Doha to the Maldives on September 26 for the SAFF Championship.
