Dinesh Chandimal returns to Sri Lanka Squad for SA series

Dinesh Chandimal

The national Cricket Selectors yesterday recalled former Sri Lanka Skipper Dinesh Chandimal for the limited overs series against South Africa, which gets underway on Thursday.

The experienced wicket-keeper batsman last played for his country during the One Day International Series (ODI) against the West Indies but was overlooked for the tour of Bangladesh and England and for the recent home series against India.

Chandimal displayed excellent form with the bat during the recent Army Commander’s Cup League T20 Tournament as well in the SLC Invitational T20 League Tournament in Kandy.

Meanwhile, the National Cricket Selectors also named Kusal Janith Perera in the 22-member squad, as the wicket-keeper batsman has recovered from COVID-19 following his isolation period.

Earlier, Perera missed the home series against India and the SLC Invitational T20 League Tournament due to a shoulder injury which he picked up in England.

Leg-spinners Pulina Tharanga, Meheesh Theekshana and Lahiru Madushanka who performed well in the SLC T20 League Tournament have also been added to the squad.

The Sri Lanka Squad:

Dasun Shanaka (Captain), Dhananjaya de Silva (Vice-Captain), Kusal Janith Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis, Minod Bhanuka, Ramesh Mendis, Chamika Karunaratne, Nuwan Pradeep, Binura Fernando, Dushmantha Chameera, Akila Dananjaya, Praveen Jayawickrema, Lahiru Kumara, Lahiru Madushanka, Pulina Tharanga and Maheesh Theekshana.
