Sri Lanka to send 14 athletes for Indian Meet

Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) are making necessary arrangements to field a 14 member squad for the 66th National Inter-State Athletic Championship in India is scheduled to begin from June 25 to 29, in Patiala.

“This will be the last option for the Sri Lankan athletes to reach their Olympic qualification standard,” official recorder of SLA Saman Gunawardena told the Daily News yesterday.

“The Athletic Federation India (AFI) has got permission from the IAAF to conduct this event as a ‘B’ level meet with the participation of few overseas athletes and that’s important for our athletes,” he added.

Sri Lanka Squad: Sumedha Ranasinghe (javelin throw), Waruna Dayarathne (javelin throw), Nadeeka Lakmali (javelin throw), Kalinga Kumarage (400m), Aruna Darshana (400m), Nadeesha Ramanayaka (400m), Nimali Liyanarachchi (800m), Himasha Eashan (100m) and Nilani Rathnayaka (3,000m steeplechase).

Sri Lanka 4X100m Relay Team: Amasha de Silva, Shelinda Jansen, Medhani Jayamanne, Safiya Yamic and Lakshika Sugandhi.

Officials: Y. K. Kularatne (Coach) and W. G. M. Thushara (Coach) and Lal Chandrakumara (Manager).
