19 year old Medunaka Wijetilleke, a Grade 12 Student of Vidyartha College,Kandy is a fine all-round cricketer who started his cricket career from Under 13 to Under 19 level and is the present cricket captain of the first Eleven Cricket team of the school. His first Cricket Coach was Dinuka Weerasinghe who trained him for three years in the Under 13 Cricket team from the year 2012 onwards.
In the following year, in 2013 he played in the‘A’ team without much success. In the year 2014 as the captain of the team he showed improved performance by scoring 203 in eight matches his highest score being 50 against Sri Rahula College,Katugastota. Again he captured 12 wickets as a Left Arm Leg Spinner, his best being claiming 4 wickets for 25 runs against Sri Rahula College, Katugastota.In the year 2015 he played in the Under 15 ‘A’ team without much success but in the following year,in 2016 he scored a fine century against St. Anthonys’College,Katugastota and he was selected to the Provincial Cricket team and became the second leading Wicket taker who claimed 13 wickets in seven matches.
In 2017/2018 season he was coached by Champika Siriwardena and Medunaka scored 304 in seven matches, his highest being 53 runs against Dharmaraja College, Kandy. In 2018 he was more successful as an All-rounder to score 450 runs during the season and his highest score being 57 runs against Dharmaraja College, Kandy. He claimed 50 wickets during the season and his best bowling feat was claiming 6 wickets for 35 runs against Sri Rahula Katugastota.In the year 2019 he was coached by Namal Perera and he showed vast improvement as an all-rounder scoring 825 runs with Two centuries and claimed 63 wickets during the season with five wickets haul in five matches. He scored centuries against President’s College,Kotte and Revatha Vidyalaya,Balapitiya and claimed five wickets haul against President’s College,Kotte (5 for 46) , Holy Cross,Kalutara((5 for 50 ) Anuradhapura Central(5 for 40 ) St.John’s Panadura(5 for 62 ) and Sri Rahula, Katugastota(6 for 38) In the Big Match against St.Sylvesters’ College,Kandy he scored 67 runs and claimed 6 wickets in both Innings.
In the 2020 season under the coaching of Chanaka Perera ,Medunaka scored 718 runs with one century against President’s College, Kotte and claimed 70 wickets during the season with five wickets haul on Five occasions ,against St.Peters’,Negombo(7 for 47) President’s College(6 for 50 & 5 for 47)Holy Cross Kalutara(6 for 56) and Sri Rahula,Katugastota(5 for 38).
In the year 2021 he came under the Cricket Coach, Senaka Dissanayake and the five Traditional Cricket matches for the season were temporarily curtailed due to Covid epidemic.
