Japan donates gymnastics equipment to SL

The Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Sugiyama Akeera donated a stock of gymnastic equipment to Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa recently.

The stock was donated on the request of the Minister and it was a gesture of long close connection maintained between the two countries.

Within such a background, Sri Lankan gymnast Milka Gehani de Silva succeeded in fulfilling required qualifications for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Gehani who succeeded in obtaining a scholarship in Japan, under the provisions of the International Olympic Committee, is engaged in special training in Tokyo and she is preparing to represent the country at Olympics in gymnastics for the first time.

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa at the same moment handed over the equipment to Secretary of the Sri Lanka Gymnastics Association (SLGA), R. A. K. Jeewantha.

Among the equipment donated were a vaulting table, a runway for the vaulting table,

vaulting boards, landing mat, a safety collar for vaulting board and a mat for hands. (D.R)
