Sylvestrian Akila fine all rounder

Sixteen year old Akila Wickremasinghe is a talented cricketer and he is studying in the Grade Eleven Class of St.Sylvesters’ College,Kandy. He is an all-rounder who played for the Under 13 Cricket team and he was at Nugawela National School from the year 2016 to 2018 and had the privilege of captaining the Under 13 Cricket team in the year 2018. His best performance in the Under 13 Level was claiming 6 wickets for 21 runs against Vidyaloka College, Galle and at the Under 13 Tournament match organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association in the year 2018 his best performance was scoring 52 runs against St.Mary’s College,Chillaw.

Akila joined St.Sylvesters’ College in the year 2019 to do higher studies as well as to further improve his cricket career and played under the Coaching of Roshan Jayatissa, talented Level II Cricket coach. When Roshan Jayatissa saw the talent of Akila Wickremasinghe, he included him in the School First XI Cricket team as a fourteen year old lad. Akila showed immediate success as a left arm Leg Spinner to claim 5 wickets for 27 runs against Vidyartha College,Kandy in 2019 The 2020 Cricket season was abandoned due to Covid pandemic.

In the year 2021 Akila played three traditional cricket matches against Trinity, Dharmaraja and St.Anthony’s, Katugastota and in these three matches he bagged 15 wickets. He claimed 5 wickets for 81 Runs against Trinity College and 5 Wickets for 39 Runs against Dharmaraja college. He gained further success by claiming another 5 wickets haul when he claimed 5 wickets for 74 Runs against St.Anthony’s College,Katugastota.

According to the Cricket Coach,Roshan Jayatissa, Akila Wickremasinghe is the most talented up-and-coming player in the team and that he can play for the next four years. Furthermore he said that Akila’s aim is to claim 100 wickets in a season as he has four more seasons ahead of him.

Akila is thankful to his coach, P.O.G; M.I.C; and the Principal of the School for the encouragement given to him to improve the game of Cricket. His intention is to do his best for the School in studies as well as Cricket to become a National level player.
