SL advance to Wheelchair Tennis WC semis

The Sri Lanka Wheelchair Tennis (WC) Team have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2021 BNP Paribas World Team Cup Qualifiers, now in progress in Portugal.

The Sri Lanka Team comprising Gamini Dissanayake, D. S. R. Dharmasena, and Suresh Ranaweera recorded a 3-0 victory over Croatia to reach the semi-finals.

The game included two singles and a doubles match. Dissanayake won 6-0, 6-2 in his singles, while Dharmasena won the game 6-2, 6-0.

Thereafter, Dharmasena partnered with Suresh Ranaweera to win the doubles game easily 6-0, 6-0.

According to the latest World Rankings, Dharmasena is placed 62 while Dissanayake is at 82, and Ranaweera is placed 101.

Among the top seven nations in the provisional seeding for the Men’s event are Austria, Greece, Poland, Chile, and Sri Lanka, all of whom are former winners at the European, Americas or Asian Qualification events in recent years.

In the semi-finals, Sri Lanka will meet Israel who are the former multiple finalists in European Qualification.
