Shan Kavishka a promising cricketer

Ranasinghe Arachchilage Shan Kavishka has brought honour and fame to St. Anthonys College Wattala.

He was born on 2nd July 2002 and he was admitted to the Grade One of his neighbourning school Bandaranayake Maha Vidyalaya Mirigama in 2008 and the then Principal was Gurudeniya Pagngnaakeerthi Thero.

Shan attended under 13 cricket practices in 2013 under Priyankara Rajapaksha and the then Master in Charge and prefect of Games were Udaya Keerthi and M. Sajeewa respectively. From his first year itself he impressed the cricket officials at the school and in the first year playing in the team in six matches he claimed 34 wickets with 5 five wicket hauls and in his second year he bagged 39 wickets in seven outings with three five wicket hauls. But he could not perform well with the bat.

Then in 2015 playing in the under 15 team he scored 311 runs with two half centuries and captured 51 wickets with seven five wicket hauls and this enabled him to earn a place in the Gampaha District Cricket Team and in this tournament he was the third highest wicket taker.

In his second year in the under 15 he passed the 300 run mark with three fifties.

How ever he could not gain a place for the Prima Cup.

He played for the under 17 team in his first year and with these performances under his belt he was selected for the Provincial Team to represent the Western Province Cricket Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket and he won the Best Bowler’s Award.

His parents Kamal Keert6hi Nanda and Renuka Ranjani decided to admit their son to St. Anthonys College in the hope of enhancing his cricket career and it was Bandaranayaka Vidyalaya’s loss and Wattala Antonians gain and immediately he came under Safraz Farook and the Master in Charge of cricket was Rev. Fr. Nuwan. In his first season he got the opportunity to play only in five outings and captured 10 scalps and he played in the recently concluded under 19 schools Limited Over Cricket Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and Antonians could not come up to expectations and his present coach is Harshana Silva.
