Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to return at No.3 in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka scheduled to be played from May 23.
Bangladesh’s team management opted to demote Shakib in his comeback ODI series after the ban against West Indies to provide experience down the order.
However, the ploy did not pay off as Nazmul Hossain failed to seize the opportunity at the position that paved the way for Soumya Sarkar’s return in the following ODI series against New Zealand which Shakib missed.
Minhajul Abedin, the Bangladesh Chief Selector, confirmed the development adding that they feel the position suits him best.
“He (Shakib) will bat at three against Sri Lanka (in the ODI’s),” said Minhajul yesterday.
“That (No.3) is the best place for him and we feel he will have the time to settle down before launching in the middle.” (Agencies)
