Twenty-year-old Hirudini Dassanayake got through her GCE (A/L) examination, obtaining three ‘A’ passes in Biology, Physics and Chemistry, and was ranked 12th in the District Rankings.
Hirudini, who is an outstanding Karateka, started competing in the sport in 2011 under the coaching of Sensei Rohitha Seneviratne.
She went up on the ladder of success from the year 2012 onwards and her first national meet was the National Karate Championship organised by the Karate do Federation in 2012, where she secured second place in Kathe.
In 2015 and 2016, she won first place in the same meet organised by the same Federation and in 2017, she secured second place. in 2018, she was placed first at the National Games.
In 2018 and 2019, she won second place at the National Games and was awarded School, Zonal, and Provincial Colours for her achievements in Karate.
Hirudini won a Bronze Medal at the Second Mayors Cup held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2015. In the year 2016, at the South Asian Karate Championship held in New Delhi, India, she won a Gold Medal in the Kathe event in the Under-15 age group.
At the 9th Commonwealth Karate Championship held in Durban, South Africa, she was able to display her maximum capacity in the Under-18 Kathe event.
She was the Karate Captain of the School for the year 2018 to 2019. Because of her capabilities in studies, as well as in sports, the school authorities selected her as the House Captain of the Eaton House in 2018, and she became the School Captain in the year 2019 to 2020.
