George Chandrasoma was an amazing personality

“Uncle George “ was an amazing personality with a lot of style. I first saw him play his stylish forehand at the then CLTA back in 1975 . He took special interest in college tennis besides enjoying his doubles with uncle

Chandi. With his advice and guidance I was fortunate to play in the Royal tennis team. I clearly remember him adjusting my blazer just before the college group photograph . Such a meticulous person always spoke about high end sports brands.

Then came the point when his son moved to the states and I was looking for a job. He kindly offered to drive me in his UMC mazda to fort and meet Devaka his friend. This was next to the family shop Sportsman. Mr. Rodrigo was seated in his pagoda office mezzanine. Loudly asked me “Young man what can I do for you”. In my humble voice “sir could you please be a reference for a job”.

Uncle George kept watching every move. Then he took me to uncle Chandi down inner flower road . He had planned everything as my second reference. Believe me when I applied to Harrison the two referrals itself got me the job without batting an eye lid.

I continued to enjoy talking to him and aunty Seetha whom he much loved. Susu , baba and Pancho were much loved by him too.

I consider myself fortunate to have known uncle George and long live his legacy.

RIP uncle George.
