Former national champion Minul Doluweera recorded a superb win against Bacajo Mark Jay of the Philippines in the seventh-round of the Asian Continental Hybrid Chess Championship, which continued yesterday.
Doluweera, who has already obtained 3.5 points out of seven games, produced a good show in the seventh round and was the only Sri Lankan to record a victory.
Meanwhile, Susal de Silva figured in another draw against Kazakhstan’s Urazaev Aristanbek in the seventh round.
The Grandmaster was 350 ranking points ahead of Susal but the young Sri Lankan FIDE Master played a good fighting game to share the point among them.
With this draw, Susal finished with four points out of a possible seven games and has moved to the 24th rank. However, Theekshana Denuwan lost to FIDE Master from Singapore, Siddarth Jagadeesh (2,331) while the national champion Ranindu Liyanage lost to Mongolia’s Agibilek Uurtsaikh (2,413). Susal will meet Mongolian Grandmaster Bilguun Sumiya in the eighth-round and Doluweera will meet Indonesian FIDE Master Andyka Pitra.
Skipper Liyanage will play against Mongolia’s Bayasgalan Khishigbaater while Denuwan will meet Kyrgyzstan’s Abdyjapar Asyl.
