“The Inter-Provincial travel restriction will not affect the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) elections as it will be held as scheduled on May 20,” Ministry of Sports Director General (DG) Amal Edirisooriya told the Daily News yesterday.
The Ministry of Sports DG who is the Authority for sport election bodies further said that there is no secret ballot system for the cricket elections and it’s a normal open voting system (hands up) and we have already decided to hold the cricket elections through zoom.
The three member cricket election committee comprising Justice Malani Gunaratne the Chairman and two members Justice Shiromi Perera and Dr. D. M. R. B. Dissanayake have already finalised the eligibility for casting vote for the cricket elections after considering objections. Four Provincial Associations, six cricket Associations, 22 District Cricket Associations, 28 Controlling Clubs and 22 Affiliated Clubs are eligible for casting vote (altogether 142 votes) for the election.
The two main parties Shammi Silva and K. Mathivanan will battle for the cricket elections. Shammi and Mathivanan will contest for the President post while Mohan de Silva and Nishantha Ranatunga will contest for the Secretary post.
Ravin Wickramaratne, Jayantha Dharmadasa, Bandula Warnapura, Mohan de Silva, Samantha Dodanwala, Nalin Aponso, Bandula Dissanayake will contest for the two Vice-President posts.
