Cannot take anything for granted against Sri Lanka - Mustafizur

Mustafizur Rahman

Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman wants to take his time to rediscover his bowling rhythm having just returned to the field after a lengthy period in isolation.

The left-arm pace bowler started skill training yesterday in the national camp for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka but does not want to rush into the strenuous specifics of his craft just yet.

Mustafizur and Shakib Al Hasan joined the national camp on Tuesday and appeared clearly fatigued by their long quarantines.

Incidentally, the fast bowler had earlier told about being mentally tired having had to go living from one bio-bubble to another. He also insisted that he will need some time to get his rhythm back after spending 17 straight days quarantining in a hotel room.

Shakib and Mustafizur had returned home from India on May 6 after taking part in the IPL that was eventually postponed following a Covid-19 outbreak. Their mandatory 14-day quarantine was relaxed to 12 days by the Ministry of Health but they were locked inside the hotel room for five days before the tournament's eventual cancellation.

Meanwhile, the fast bowler said that he is not ready to take anything for granted against Sri Lanka even though the visitors are missing several senior cricketers in their attempt to blood young talent in the build up to World Cup 2023.

"I don't take any team lightly as the nation have to win isn't it. Whoever comes to play international cricket is not small (strength-wise) and I feel both teams are equal. We have won a lot of matches at home so naturally we will be ahead. We can win the series but we need to perform first," Mustafizur concluded.
