Royal to clash with Mahanama in blockbuster semi-final today

Two equally good teams, Royal College and Mahanama College will clash in the Under-19 Division One Tier ‘A’ Cricket Tournament semi-final at the De Zoysa Stadium in Morartuwa today.

Royal led by inform batsman Ahan Wickramsainghe has a strong batting line-up with Isiwara Dissanayake, Senith Jayawardena and young Dasis Manchananyake leading the way.

Pacemen Kavindu Pathirathne and Sonal Amarasekara are among the wickets for Royal this season and they will be backed up by the spinners Gishan Balasuriya, Pashan Kalhara and Manchanayake.

Mahanama Skipper Pavan Ratnayake will look to continue his outstanding form this season following his match winning knocks of 117 against Trinity and 93 against St. Joseph’s College. In addition, Sachira Weliwatte, Pulshan Rohana, Savindu Kavinda are also among the runs this season.

Left-arm paceman Sampath Nissanka is the most successful bowler for Mahanama and he will have the support of Sethum Kenula and Sadishan Chamodya.

Earlier, in the quarter-finals, Royal beat Nalanda by six wickets while Mahanama defeated St. Anthony’s, Katugastota by 38 runs. Meanwhile, St. Joseph’s College, Colombo will meet Trinity College in the other semi-final fixture at the Surrey Grounds in Maggona today.

The Josephians led by all-rounder Dunith Wellalage beat Richmond College by 128 runs while Trinity led by all-rounder Abhisehek Anandakumar beat St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa by seven wickets in their respective quarter-finals.

St. Joseph’s openers Sadeesh Jayawardena and Sheran Fonseka are among the runs while Shevon Daniel, Yesith Rupasinghe and Skipper Wellalage are the key players in their batting line-up.

Leg-spinner Wellalalge is also the most successful bowler for St. Joseph’s this season and he will have the backing of Daniel, Shenuka de Silva and Deshan Seneviratne.

Trinity openers Thewin Amarasinghe and Umair Raizan are among the runs this season while Pasan Ganegoda, Pawan Pathiraja and Anandakumar are capable of making useful runs.

The two fast bowlers Matheesha Pathirana and Pasan Kularatne will spearhead Trinity’s bowling attack with spinners Dinuka Tennakoon and Anandakumar set to provide the back up support.
