Tiger Woods hospitalized after car crash

US Golfer Tiger Woods suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and underwent hours of surgery Tuesday after a single-vehicle crash on a steep roadway in a Los Angeles suburb.

The crash required Woods, 45, to be extricated from his heavily damaged vehicle, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Sources told ESPN that Woods has crush injuries of both lower legs, including a compound fracture and a shattered ankle. A crush injury occurs when a heavy object puts pressure onto a body part. He was undergoing surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
