Three SL cricketers pass ‘2 KM’ fitness test for West Indies tour

Sri Lanka Cricket poolists for the upcoming West Indies tour Kusal Mendis, Dhanushka Gunathilaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa successfully completed the ‘Two kilometer’ mandatory fitness test yesterday, which they had failed last week. All the pool players were asked to run the ‘Two kilometre’ distance within a time frame of eight minutes and 35 seconds last week.

Newly wed Sri Lankan cricketer Kusal Mendis who couldn’t participate in last week’s test due to his wedding also did his fitness test yesterday. Mendis finished the two- kilometre distance in eight minutes and 18 seconds while Dhanushka Gunathilaka ran the distance in eight minutes and 23 seconds and Bhanuka Rajapaksa did it in eight minutes and 27 seconds. Speaking to the Daily News Sri Lanka opener Dhanushka Gunathilaka said “I got through the new two kilometer test in 8.23 minutes and I wanted to thank everyone who had supported me,” concluded Gunathilaka.

Meanwhile Kusal Janith Perera who failed last week’s fitness test is expected to do the test again by next week, along with opener Avishka Fernando - who missed last week’s test due to an ankle injury.

The Sri Lankan cricket team which could not leave for the West Indies on the scheduled date due to player Lahiru Thirimanne and head coach Mickey Arthur having tested positive for Covid - 19. They will now most probably will leave for the Caribbean by end of the month.
