SLT-MOBITEL Speedup powers Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb 2021

SLT-MOBITEL, the ultra-high speed fibre broadband services provider in Sri Lanka has joined hands with the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC) to launch 25th edition of the SLTMOBITEL Speedup Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb. This undertaking of the renowned motor race by SLT-Mobitel will be conducted for the sixth consecutive time.

The upcoming event was announced during a press conference held at the SLT main auditorium recently.

The racing spectacle will comprise 16 motor cycle events and 17 motor car events.

The Bike Race will be held on February 27 and the Car Race will take place the following day, February 28. The event will be held under strict conditions adhering to all guidelines issued by the health authorities to ensure the safety of all stakeholders. For the first time in it's history the event would be worked off sans spectators.

The event, which is being held under the theme ‘SLTMOBITEL Speedup’ is regarded as yet another initiative through which SLT-MOBITEL aims to support and empower the local sports segment and take it up to the next level.

Deputy Chief Marketing Officer of Sri Lanka Telecom-Mobitel Rohana Ellawala said that being the ultra high speed fiber broadband service provider, the blue chip company has been associated with most of the speedy sporting events in the Island.

Dilan Senevirathne who holds the course record of 32.422 seconds for the Eliyakanda track said that the 540 metre track was one of the best tracks he had raced on and added that the four corners were a challenge to competitors.

Sangeeth Sooriyage who established a new course record of 33.752 seconds on debut at the 2020 edition said that he would be looking forward to better his record this year but added that the lack of competition and possibly even a trial run may be a set back. The SLTMOBITEL Speedup Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb is a national championship event which has been functioning under the approval of the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS), the governing body for motor sports in Sri Lanka.

Sharing his thoughts on the upcoming racing event, Prabhath Dahanayake, Chief Marketing Officer of SLT stated, “SLT-MOBITEL is delighted to have the privilege of coming on board once again to support the Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb. As a pioneer in providing high speed broadband services, becoming a part of an initiative of this calibre which resonates with the speed in the services we offer.”
