Sanka Athukorala cleared his second hurdle on his way towards the Men’s Singles Open title with another impressive win at the SSC Open Tennis Tournament, which continued at the SSC Courts in Maitland Place yesterday.
The hot favourite rallied around through his experience to beat Gayanga Weerasekara in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in a second-round encounter.

Men’s Singles Open (2nd round): Dumidu Dilum beat Neil Jayaranga 6-0, 6-0. Sanka Athukorala beat Gayanga Weerasekara 6-1, 6-3. Gayanath Senadeera beat Senal Hemakumara 6-4, 6-4. Jagath Gamage beat Suresh Kumara 6-1, 6-2.
Boys’ Under-12 Singles (1 st round): Metheka Wickramasinghe beat Mohamed Insaf 6-0, 6-0.
