Milena Priyadarshani an outstanding karateka

Karate Black Belt, Gold Medalist and member of the Sri Lanka Karate Squad Milena Priyadarshani Fernando has brought honour and fame to her Alma Mater Girls’ College, Dankotuwa. She was admitted to this school in 2008 when Rev Sister Beatrice was at the helm of the school.

When Milena was in the Primary Section of the school she did swimming under Mrs. Guneththi but her forte was Karate and noticing her keenness and interest in karate her parents Raju Fernando and Krishanthi Priyadarshani admitted their daughter to the school karate class and she came under Susantha Perera.

Her first Karate Meet was in 2014 and she participated as an under 14 competitor in Nanthako Kata Event which was held at Ratnapura and she clinched a Gold Medal at her first attempt and this achievement was a great boon for her karate career. In the mean time she came under her school Karate Coach Sumith Wasantha and in 2015 she took part in a Karate Meet organized by Puttalam District Karate Do Association in under 15 age group and received a Merit Certificate At the Sri Lanka Karate Do Association Meet she won a Gold for Kumite and in the same age category she participated in the North Western Provincial Karate Meet in 2016 and won a Gold for Kumite and in the All Island Inter School Karate Championship in 2017 in the same age group she bagged a Gold

In 2018 competing in the under 18 age category in the All Island Inter School Karate Meet organized by Sri Lanka Schools Karate Association she won a Gold and in 2019 All Island School Games organized by the Ministry of Education she grabbed a Bronze Medal and with these performances under her belt the Sri Lanka Karate Federation selected a Karate Squad and she was in the pool for Kumite Event.

So far competing in six karate tourneys she has won five Golds and a Bronze during her short stint in Karate.
