Pasindu Wathsana - karateka par excellence

Pasindu Wathsana Wickramanayake participated in the SKU International Karate Championship 2019 in India. Pasindu Wickramanayake won a Silver Medal at this meet and he posed for a photograph with the officials. Sri Lanka Karate Youth Poolist. Gold Medalist and Volleyball Player Pasindu Wathsana Wickramanayake brought honour and glory to his motherland and his Alma Mater Dhammissara National School Nattandiya.

He was admitted to the Primary School of Dhammissara in 2008 when R. K. W. Gunasekera was at the helm of the school and his first class teacher was Mrs. Kalyani. In 2011 he was selected to the Under ten volleyball team at the Inter House Volleyball Tournament and his team emerged as the second Runner Up. Then in the following year he did swimming in a private swimming pool for two years. In the mean time his parents Priyankara Wickramanayake and Chandani Dhammika Ranasinghe observing his talents and keenness in Karate admitted their son to International Shotokan Karate United Academy and he came under Susantha Sugath Kumara in 2016.

In 2017 participating in the under 15 age group Shotokan Sankukai Open National Karate Championship he won two Gold Medals at his first attempt in Kumite and Kata and competing in the same year and same age group he won a Gold Medal in Kumite and a Silver in Kata at the Puttalam District Karate Championship and at the 26th North Western Province Karate Championship he won Bronzes in Kumite and Kata.

In the same year at the 4th Open Invitation Semi Contact, Karate Championship he won Bronzes in Kumite and Kata and in the Sri Lanka Schools Senior Karate Championship he collected two Bronzes for Kumite and Kata.

Then in the Sri Lanka Schools Senior Karate Championship he won a Gold for Kumite and in the second S. F. K. F. Open Karate Championship he won a Silver for Kumite.

Then in 2018 in the 16/17 age group at the 6th Puttalam District Karate Championship he won a Gold Medal. Same year at the 27the North Western Province Karate meet he won a Gold for 16/17 age group and at the Sri Lanka Karate National Kumite Championship he won another Gold.

In 2019 at the Gattano Pisano Open Invitation Karate Championship under 18 he won a Gold Medal for Kumite and Silver for Kata and in the same year at the second All Island Karate Championship he once again won a Gold for Kumite and a Silver for Kata At the 7th Puttalam District Karate Meet he won a Gold for Kumite and a Silver for Kata and then he won a Gold for Kumite and a Silver for Kata at the 28th North Western Provincial Meet and in the North Western Province Schools Meet he got a Bronze in Kumite At the School Prize Giving in 2019 he was adjudged the Best All Round Student for Sports and Education in Commerce Stream and appointed as a Prefect and he received the Most Prestigious Award Dhammissara Lion and at the Schools Colours Nite he was awarded Karate Colours.

With all these performances under his belt he was selected for the ISKU International Karate Tour of Hyderabad, India in which nine countries participated and in the Kumite Event he won a Silver Medal and also he was awarded the Black Belt in Kumite by the ISKU Sri Lanka Japan Association for winning Golds in Kumite Event in 2017, 2018 and 2019

Finally in 2020 in the 46th National Sports Festival Meet he won a Bronze for Kumite and with the outbreak of Coronavirus all the tournaments came to a halt and during a span of four years in Karate he has won 27 Medals which includes 13 Golds, 7 Silvers and 7 Bronzes. For all these achievements his two coaches Sugath Kumara and Petera Perera the PoG Keerthi Jayasekera, and Principal Anil Pushpakumara were always behind him and at presently he is in the National Youth Karate Squad along with another 50 players.
