Luca Knese and Savini Jayasuriya clinched the Boys’ and Girls’ Under-18 Singles titles respectively at the Sri Lanka National Tennis Championships, which continued at the SLTA Courts in Green Path yesterday.
Luca of course, had a tough game as he struggled mid way in the final before overcoming the more fancied Chathurya Nilawera in a thrilling three-setter.
Luca put himself in contention for an easy win by claiming the opening set 6-2 but suffered a minor setback when he conceded the second set 5-7.
However, he recovered well and played some excellent tennis to snatch the deciding third and final set and the match 10-3.
In contrast, Savini enjoyed a comfortable straight set 6-1, 6-0 win over Oneli Perera in the Girls’ Under-18 final. (A.N)
