Kovin Sanjula a versatile sportsman

Kovin Sanjula Koralage , an old boy of Chandananda Buddhist School,Kandy is an outstanding sportsman as well as a bright student. As an all round sportsman he is involved in Athletics, Badminton, Swimming and Chess and he also excelled in music and dancing. He did athletics with limited facilities as they did not have a proper playground in the school and they used the Bogambara Stadium or the Asgiriya playground. His Athletic Coach is Nilko who trained him at Bogambara Grounds. He won 100 metres, 200 metres and Long Jump at the School Sports Meet from Junior to senior level. He was successful in the Central Province Athletic Championship and he continued till he was 16 years old but was unable to improve due to his studies. As a Badminton Player Kovin did the sport under the coaching of Sumitra Dissanayake and he was runner-up in the Singles event at the Central Province School championship at Under 15 and under 17 levels. He was also a swimmer and he practiced at St.Anthonys’ Swimming pool under a private coach and he preferred the Free Style event and participated at the Provincial Swimming Tournament twice since 2014 but he could not get a place due to lack of practice.

Kovin is also a Chess player and became runner-up at the Chess Competition held at Polgolla Co-operative Hall in the year 2017. As a cricketer too he played a few matches but could not continue due to the lack of a playground. He was in the School Dancing Group which won the All Island Dancing Championship in the Year 2014 and 2015. After completing the G.C.E.(O/L) Kovin joined Dharmaraja College, Kandy to continue with his higher studies and to continue his sports. He got through the G.C.E(A/L) and did not want to get admitted to the University as he was interested in music and formed a group of singers

Kovin is thankful to his Principal of Chandanada Buddhist School, Ven. Dr.Godagama Mangala Thero for encouraging him in sports as well as studies and the Principal of Dharmaraja College, for the encouragement given to him to come to this standard.
