Tharushi outstanding cricketer of St. Anthony’s Girls School

W.M.N.Tharushi Thathsarani started her cricket career as Captain of the Girls Cricket team of Poramadulla Vidyakara Maha Vidyalaya of Nuwara Eliya District before joining St.Anthonys’ Girls School, Katugastota for higher studies as well as to improve her skills in cricket and she was recommended for admission to St.Anthonys’ Girls School by veteran Cricket Coach, Laxman Panditharatne who was impressed by Tharushi’s cricketing ability.

At her old School, she was coached by Jagath Wasantha, the District Coach of Nuwara Eliya and she played as a Right arm leg spinner. She claimed 2 wickets for 20 runs against Kegalle district and scored 32 runs in the District match against Kegalle District in 2017. Even though she was at St.Anthony’s Girls School at that time there was a rule for a Cricket player to play for her earlier School (Poramadulla Vidyakara MV) and in 2019 she scored 58 runs against Kandy District representing Nuwara Eliya District .

After joining the new School in the year 2018, she showed vast mprovement in cricket under the veteran Coach Susantha Basnayake of St.Anthonys’ and she learnt wicket keeping, bowling and batting as well as ground fielding and came upto to a good standard Tharushi is a right arm leg spinner and a front line batswoman. In the year 2018 when she played against Galewela Central College, she kept wickets for the side and took a record number of six catches behind the stumps. As an opening batswoman she scored 48 runs against Marapola MV and 83 runs against Maliyadewa Girls School,Kurunegala.

In the year 2020 she scored 40 runs against Kandy District team and from 2016 onwards she has been representing Central Province . Her highest achievement in Bowling is claiming 3 wickets for 20 runs at the Super four Provincial Tournament against Galle and she could not do much in Batting in this tournament.

Tharushi did her G.C.E.(A/L) this year in the Commerce stream and is awaiting results.

Her intention is to improve her studies while playing cricket as long as she can and she is thankful to her former Cricket Coach and the present Coach of St.Anthonys’ and her parents for their guidance to pursue her cricket career from the start.
