Tharindu Harshana a prolific run getter for P. de S. Kularatne College

Tharindu Harshana Jayanath

17-year-old Tharindu Harshana Jayanath, right hand opener of P. de S. Kularatne College Ambalangoda gave a fine batting performance in this season of the under 19 Division Two inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tournament.

Tharindu was born on 17th February, 2003 at Panadura. He attended Royal College Panadura in 2009. He started his cricket career at school cricket academy under coach Sumith Prasanna in 2011 when he was in grade three. He played under 13 cricket three seasons from 2014 to 2016. He represented the school under 13 team ‘B’ as deputy skipper in 2014. Right hand batsman and wicketkeeper, Tharindu scored 535 runs with eight fifties in this season. He also performed well behind the stumps with 20 victims.

He represented the school under 13 team ‘A’ and scored 375 runs and claimed 23 victims behind the wicket in 2015. Royal College Panadura was runner up in the tournament. He led the college under 13 team and they qualified to the semi finals in 2016. Tharindu scored 620 runs with a century and eight half centuries in the season.

Tharindu has scored over 200 runs in under 15 division One with three half centuries and claimed 18 victims as a wicket keeper in 2017. He represented the Kalutara district under 15 team and Western Province South Outer team in the Prima Champions trophy under 15 inter district and inter provincial tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in the same year. He represented Fingara Cricket Academy in the Nelson Mendis Trophy under 14 tournament in 2017. He was adjudged the Man of the Match in the semi final.

He joined P. de S. Kularatne College Ambalangod in 2018. He played only one match in the under 15 tournament in 2018. He made a half century against Thurstan College Colombo.

Tharindu represented the school under 19 team in division two as a fresher in the season of 2018/2019. He scored 475 runs with three fifties and he claimed 18 victims. Tharindu scored 202 runs with two half centuries in under 17 tournament in 2019. He scored 989 runs with three centuries and seven half centuries in 2019/2020 season.

His best batting performance was 134 runs against Kalutara Vidyalaya. He made centuries against St. John’s College Jaffna (104) and Sri Jayawardhanapura MV Kotte (100*) in this season. He made three centuries in consecutive three innings. He maintained 52.05 batting average. He claimed 32 victims behind the wicket with 27 catches and 5 stumps. He sat O/L exam in December of 2019. He passed O/L exam with 2A’s, 3 B’s, 2 C’s and 1 S’s.
