Sri Lankan cricketers clear second PCR hurdle

The Sri Lankan Cricketers cleared the second health hurdle after they were tested negative in their second PCR test held last Tuesday. They were granted permission to use the center wicket at the grounds and the players have had a practice session in different aspects of the game under their coaches.

As per team sources, they have a further PCR test today followed by another training session before they embark on the ‘Boxing Day’ Test at the Centurion. The arrangements of the hosts, Cricket South Africa (CSA), has been very commendable, in making them comfortable both on and off the field, according to the Lankan team management.

According to sources, the playing surface has more grass and is likely to assist the pace bowlers, where Sri Lanka might use a three pronged pace attack, including Lahiru Kumara, who will spearhead the attack after generating extra ordinary pace in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League. There is a possibility of including a spinner with an all-rounder, likely to be Wanindu Hasaranga, who is in prime form and will make his Test debut there.

Nevertheless, it’s going to be a keenly contested Test match, where the hosts are also striving hard to put up a decent performance after some of their senior players opted out due to various reason. The weather also has suddenly changed and from the mid 20C to below with an occasional drizzle and cool climate which once again will favour the seamers.

The match will be officiated by their local umpires, due to the travel and health restrictions. The South African camp too has finalized their third PCR test which came out in negative.
