Nimesha Bandara an outstanding athlete

Nishara Nimesha Bandara, Grade.13 Arts student of Mahamaya Girls School,Kandy is an outstanding Athlete who showed her class at the tender age of 10 years when she became the Best Athlete for three consecutive years, from 2011 to 2013 at the Kandy District Athletic Meet. She secured the first place in 80 and 100 Metre events in 2011 and in 2012 she won 80 & 100 Metre races and 80 Metres. Hurdles.

In 2013 she won in 100 and 200 Metres to become the best Athlete in the Under 13 age category and she achieved this feat when she was a student at Galagedara Central ,Kandy and her Coach was Asela Jayaratne.

She got admitted to Mahamaya Girls School,Kandy in the year 2014 and maintained her outstanding performance as an Athlete when she won the Junior Championship at the District Sports Meet, where she won 300 Metres Race and came a close second in 80 Metres hurdles and at the Junior John Tarbat Meet she secured first place in 100 Metres.

She was also a member of the Schools successful 4 x 100 Relay Carnival organized by the BOC of Kandy with her Relay partners, Amandi, Amasha and Madhushika. In the year 2016, at the Zonal Meet she had to be satisfied by becoming 2nd in 100 metres and 3rd place in 200 Metres. events.

Nimesha was a member of the School Relay team and she became 2nd at the Relay Carnival held in the year 2016 with the other members of the Relay team.

Her Athletic Coach at Mahamaya is Janz Dissanayake. In the year 2017, she got a serious leg injury and had to rest for two years to recover and again she came back strongly at the 2020 Inter House Sports Meet of Mahamaya to win 100, 200 metre events and became the Under 20 Champion as well as the overall Best Athlete of the Meet.

In studies she is following a Course of languages and hope to become a Lawyer In future while continuing Athletics. Nimesha is thankful to her former Coach Asela Jayaratne and the present Coach Janz Dissanayake, former Principal of the School,Indra Withanachchi and the present Principal Lalitha Egodawela as well as the POG Nilu Wijekoon for the encouragement given to her.
