Namal requests school interval to be extended

At a function held at Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya recently, chief guest Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Sports, made a request to Education Minister, Professor G.L. Peiris, to increase the school interval by another 15 minutes, which will give the kids a little more time to engage in sports, especially the boys, who can play a little more cricket.

The Minister emphasized on the importance of making students excel in education while also being involved in sports. There is a misinterpretation among the teachers and the parents that due to participation in sports activities the students are neglecting their studies, which he said is

totally wrong thinking. Sports face major setbacks without intellectuals who are equally good at handling both studies and sports.

A good sportsman should be able to absorb what his coach tells him at training and execute

it to perfection. This will enable them to blossom as a quality person. “I made a kind request to the Education Minister to increase the interval time by another 15 minutes by reducing two minutes from each period where 20 minutes time will be saved.

With his permission and extension of the interval the boys can bowl few more overs and enjoy the sport,” said the Minister. (A.N.)
