Lasith of St. Anne’s, Kurunegala an excellent batting display

Lasith Warnakulasooriya third year coloursman of St. Anne’s College Kurunegala gave a fine batting performance in the 2019-20 season of the Under 19 Division One inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tournament.

K.A. Lasith Champika Warnakulasooriya was born on 26th January 2001 at Kurunegala. He attended Wellawa Maha Vidyalaya in 2006. He started his Cricket career under coach Suranga Sampath in 2011 after grade 5 scholarship exam. He played under 13 Cricket for three seasons from 2012 to 2014. Right hand batsman Lasith scored over 300 runs in his first season of under 13 division Three with a century. He made a century against Maliyadeva College Kurunegala B team in 2012. He scored more than 600 runs with two centuries. He made centuries against U.B. Wanninayake Central College Galgamuwa and Kobeigane Maha Vidyalaya in 2013. He scored more than 600 runs with two centuries against St. Bernadettes MV Polgahawela and Sri Rahula MV Alawwa in 2014. and four fifties

He represented the school under 15 teams in 2015 and 2016. He scored more than 500 runs with a century in the under 15 divison Three tournament in 2015. He represented the Kurunegala district under 15 team in the Prima Champions trophy under 15 inter district tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in the same year. He scored 70 runs against Matale district team.

He scored over 600 runs with a century in the under 15 division Three tournament in 2016. He scored 160 runs against Mawathagama Central College. He represented the Kurunegala district under 15 team in the Prima Champions trophy under 15 inter district tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in the same year. He scored two fifties against Anuradhapura district team and Puttalam district team in the same year.

He sat the O/L exam in December 2016. He passed O/L with 4 B’s, 3 C’s and 2 S’s and he joined St. Anne’s College Kurunegala for A/Levels.

He represented the under 17 team of St. Anne’s College Kurunegala in the under 17 division One tournament under coach Chanaka Lakshitha Ediriweera in 2017. He scored 680 runs with 2 tons and 3 fifties. He made centuries against Kingswood College Kandy and St. Mary’s College Kegalle. He represented St. Anne’s first XI team as a fresher in the division Two tournament. He scored only over 400 runs with a fifty. St. Anne’s College Kurunegala was runner up in the division Two tournament and were promoted to division One from the season 2018/19.

Lasith scored more than 300 runs with a fifty in Under 17 division One tournament in 2018. He scored 590 runs with 5 fifties in under 19 division One inter schools Cricket tournament in season of 2018/19. He claimed 20 wickets as a right arm off-spinner in that season.

Lasith scored more 790 runs with a century and 4 fifties in under 19 division One inter schools Cricket tournament in season of 2019/20. His best batting performance was 123 runs against Dharmaraja College Kandy. He scored half centuries against St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya (78), St. Aloysius Galle (92), Dharmasoka Ambalangoda (58) and St. Sylvester’s Kandy (59).

He played three big matches in the“Battle of the Rock” against Maliyadeva College Kurunegala He represented Sebastianites CC in the Premier under 23 inter club Cricket tournament in 2020. He was adjudged best fielder in 2018 and he best batsman in 2019.
