Karateka Lewanya Pamali does her school Dammissara proud

Sri Lanka School’s under 15 Karateka and Athlete Lokubalasuriyage Lewanya Pamali brought honour and glory to her motherland and her Alma Mater Dammissara Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Natttandiya.

Lewanya’s first school was Anuruddha Madya Maha Vidyalaya and her first teacher was Mrs. Mala Muthukuda and whilst at school she participated in the Inter House Sports Meets. She entered Dammissara Madya Maha Vidyalaya when Mr. Gunasekera was at the helm of the school and her class teacher was Mrs. Dinuki. In the mean time she attended Private Karate Classes at Bothalagama Karate Academy. When she was under 11 she came under Asela Sumith and she received all the backing from Prefect of Games and PTI of the school Keerthi Jayasekera and in her first Karate Meet she was placed third in the under eleven. After that she participated in Nihon Shotokan Karate Events and Inter Academy for Karate Association under 40lbs and came first in the under 12/13 age group and in the under 14 and 15 event again she won in 2010 and in 2016 she came second.

In the school Inter House Sports Meet Karate was introduced and competing in the under 20 Kumite Ata in two events she came first and won the Best Player’s Award and in 2015 in the under 15 Provincial Kumite she came third and in 2016 she won in the Provincial Meet in the under 17 event. She went on to win the first place in the under 18 Provincial Meet in2017 and won the All Island meet and was awarded colours. She came third in the under 18 Provincial meet and again in 2019 she won the Provincial Meet and the All Island Second Runners Up Place.

In the mean time The Sports Ministry organized a tour to Malaysia from the All Island Schools to participate for the Mayor’s Cup in Kuala Lampur and it was a mixed team for Kumite Event and Three Boys and Two Girls participated for the Kumite Event from Sri Lanka Contingent and her team won a Bronze Medal and Lewanya won Sports Ministry Colours for Karate.

Competing in the under 14/15 age group in Sri Lanka Karate Do Championship she won the District, Provincial and won in the All Island Tournament and in the following year after winning the District and Provincial she was second in the All Island. Once again in the under 16 and 17 in 2017 she won the All Island Title and all these tournaments were organized by Karate Do Association for under 43lbs. In 2018 she won in the District, Provincial and came All Island Third in the Karate Open Championship under 43lbs.

In the School Colours Nite for 2018 she was awarded School Colours for the Best Karate Champion and in 2019 too she was rewarded with the same Award and Colours.

Also she was awarded the Prize for the School Science Steam All Round Sports and for Education and In 2018 and 2019 at the Colours Nite. Mr. Peter who is In Charge of Karate, the Prefect of Games Keerthi Jayasekera Mrs. Nilani and Eranda and Teachers in Charge of Karate the Principal.

Anil Pushpakumara and Deputy Principal Mrs. Nilmini Rodrigo and her father L. B. Dharmasiri who is an Engineer at Tudawe Brothers and her mother Krishani Janaki helped her in numerous ways to come up the ladder.
