Ishen Thilochana volleyball star in the making

Seventeen year old Dunusinghage Ishen Thilochana is a promising volleyball player of Dammissara National School Nattandiya one of the All Island Volleyball playing schools in the island which has produced several volleyball players for the National team

Ishen’s first school was Boys Junior School, Marawila and he was admitted to school when W. A. Sarath Fernando was the Principal and his first teacher was Mrs. Neeta Shyamalie.

He participated in the Inter School Sports Meet and he was in Grade Three and did and 50 and 75 metres and long jump and swept the board easily but he could not perform well in the Divisional Meet and in 2012 he did long jump and 50 and 75 metrres and came first in long jump and second in the two events at the Divisional Meet. In 2013 he was admitted to Dammissara National School and in the following year he began playing volleyball under Channa Jayasekera and in the first year itself he was selected to the team and participated in the Tikiri Volleyball Tournament held in Gampaha.

Then in the next year he played in the Divisional Tournament and his school came second and taking part in the All Island DSI Tournament his school came second and taking part in the All Island DSI Tournament in the following year they were the third in the under 15 tournament and the following year taking part in the under 16 they were second in Divisional tournament and in the all island they were un successful and they were the Runners Up in the Zonal and Divisional and representing in the All Island Tournament they came fourth and in 2018 they were from the lower tournament and in DSI they were the fourth from the All Island.

Same year playing in the All Island National Schools Volleyball Tournaments he came up to Best Eight. In the mean time he represented the Nattandiya United Club in the Dialog Tournament and they won the Trophy.

His Principal Anil Pushpakumara, Deputy Principal Mrs. Nilmini Rodrigo and the Prefect of Game Keerthi Jayasekera were very supportive and his parents Ravindra Pushpakumara and his mother Mrs. Geetha Kumari Herath are always behind him in his volleyball career.
