Fifth year player right hand middle order batsman and right arm medium pace bowler,Yakdehi Kandage Vishmika Sandeep Costa will be captaining Kalutara Vidyalaya in the forthcoming 2020/21 first eleven cricket season and his deputy will be Minidu Pahsara.
Vishmika entered Grade one of Kalutara Vidyalaya in 2009 and at the same age he attended cricket practices under Sunil Saluwadana at the beginning he played as a wicket keeper and opening batsman and in his first two years he could not live upto expectations and in his first year in the under 15 he scored 680 runs with a century against Devananda Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda and he kept wickets. In his second year in the same age group he scored 650 runs with five fifties and claimed 37 wickets with four five wicket hauls and played for the Prima Cup for Kalutara District.
In the first year in the under 17 he collected 570 runs with three half centuries and captured 32 wickets and in his second year in the under 17 he was the vice captain and scored 712 runs including a century against Isipathana Vidyalaya and bagged 45 wickets with one five wicket haul.
His first year in the first eleven team was in 2017/18 and he scored 570 runs with three fifties and grabbed 52 wickets with two five wicket hauls and in the following year he scored 680 runs with three half centuries and claimed 40 wickets with two five wicket hauls and in the last season he made 684 runs with four fifties and bagged 54 wickets with five five wicket hauls and in that year he played for the District team. His coach Rumesh Milroy advised him to bat at No. 3 instead of opening and to refrain from bowling and to concentrate on batting This year Vishmika is coming out with a strong out fit because there are eight players from last years team playing this year and he is well supported by the Principal Harshana Peiris and Prefect of Games Aruna Gammune. This year he played for Badureliya Sports Club in the under 23 cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.
