Last year’s local champion surfer from Weligama SC, D.A. Lakshitha Madushan dominated as he carried away the National Surfing Championship 2020 at Arugam Bay Beach, yesterday.

Madushan was evenly challenged by two Surfers from Arugambay Surf Club: L.H. Prabath and P.B. Praneeth Sandaruwan. In Addition to the National Championship, W. I. Asanka Sanjeeva won the men’s’ singles title.

There were five foreign competitors in the women’s surfing event, in which Sri Lanka was represented by Anne Sudan Jayamanne. Nikita Roobb of South Africa was the winner of the, followed by Estonia’s Kroot coming in second and Jayamanne bagging third.

The National Championship saw over 50 competitors participating, and it was interesting to watch as surfers from all parts of Sri Lanka were seen in action.

All in all, it was a day filled with glory for our surfers as their performances would be considered for world rankings.

The Surfing Association of Sri Lanka organised the event along with Lanka Sports Reizen, with assistance coming from the Ministry of Sports.
