Veteran athlete Narasinghe wins four Golds

N.L.W.Narasinghe of Kandy came out with flying colours at the Sri Lanka Masters Athletics 33rd Annual Championship held last year at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo in the 80 to 84 age group and secured first place in 1500, 5000, 2000 and 800 metres events and won four Gold Medals. He repeated this performance winning 800 metres at the same meet held from 29th February to 1st March, 2020 at the Sugathadasa Stdium. He could not take part in the other events as he was involved in organizing this annual event as he was in the Organising Committee.

In International Meets he has won many events and in the year 2013 he won 5000 Metres at the International Masters Games in Geelong, Australia. In the year 2006 he won 5000 Metres in India competing in the 80 to 84 age group. Apart from that in the year 2002 he won 5000 metres. and 2000 metres events held in China and in Malaysia he secured the 2nd place in 2000 metres and 5000 metres and won two Silver Medals which was held from 2nd to 7th of December, 2019.

Narasinghe has been in the Athletic field since 1985 and since then he has been among the first three in whatever event he has taken part in. He is an Arts Degree holder of the University of Peradeniya and was a Principal in a Govt. School in Ratnapura. He told this correspondent that he has not taken any medication in his lifetime and he says that as he was involved in athletics from his younger days , he is still physically fit although he is 84 years old. Further he said that you can get more talent from residing in rural areas as you have more time and space to do fitness exercises than in urban areas with the busy schedules and the relevant authorities should pay more attention regarding physical training for the athletes.
