Kandy’s rugby lovers still talk about Tikiri Marambe’s rugby playing. days He was educated at Trinity College and was fortunate to receive skilled rugby coaching. He had his natural talents. He played for the school from 1968 to 1971 and in his last year as a school boy he played for CR & FC in1971 in which year they won the Clifford Cup by beating Police 27-6 in the final

He donned the Red Jersry of the Longden Place club and played a key role in their success pairing off with his school mate Irwin Howie with the club emerging unbeaten league champions in 1973 and 1974 He gained a reputation as a top scrum half, He won the colours and coveted Lion in rugby and also played cricket.He joined Air Force in 1975 and played for many seasons and had the privilege of captaining both Air Force and the Defence Services in 1982. He played for the Katunayake-based club for 13 years from where he was chosen to lead the national team at the Hong Kong Asiad in 1988. During the 1980s Air Force SC produced a number of well known rugby players one of them was Tikiri Marambe. In 1986 Air Force, won their first Clifford Cup under the leadership of Lakshman Caldera defeating Police SC in the final with a score of 10-8. In this game Tikiri gave a good display.

Tikiri Marambe,was a well known personality in rugby. He started his rugby with Trinity College and was rated as one of the best scrum halves. Tikiri as he is called by his friends (some call him Tikka), went all-out and gave of hist best at his school . During his school days he was a top class scrum half and paired off with Irwin Howie under the leadership of Shafi Jainudeen.

He also played under Palitha Sam Samarasekara and Y.S. Ping He also played for Combined Schools,

After hanging up his boots, he got into coaching and did a good job. Tikiri was one time the Chairman of Selection Committee of the SLRFU from 1999 to 2003, and on and off the field he has given his best for the game of rugby. when he decided to quit from all activities involving rugby. The ex-Air Force Group Captain Tikiri Marambe was a former Chairman of the Khettarama and the Sugathadasa Stadiums.
