Josephian Sheran Fonseka passes 1000 run mark

Sheran Fonseka of St. Joseph’s College Colombo passed the 1000 run milestone this season in the ‘Singer Trophy’ Under 19 Division One inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tourn ament.

Left hand batsman Sheran Fonseka commenced his school Cricket career at Holy Cross College Kalutara from under 13 age limit. He led the under 13 ‘A’ team in 2015. He scored 585 runs in the under 15 inter - schools cricket tournament in 2016.

He represented the Kalutara district team in the Prima champions Cup inter districs tournament. He represented Western Province South Outer team and they were champions in the Prima champions cup inter provincial cricket tournament in 2015 conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.

He scored over 800 runs with 4 centuries and 5 half centuries in the under 15 inter schools Cricket tournament in 2017.

He represented the first XI team of Holy Cross College Kalutara. He represented Sri Lanka Schools under 15 team for the Malaysia tour. Sheran Fonseka was adjudicated man of the match in the semi final and they emerged champion of the Tuanku – Jafar memorial trophy.

Sheran Fonseka joined St. Joseph’s College Colombo from year 2018. He represented the under 17 team and they were champions in the Singer under 17 division One inter schools Cricket tournament in 2018. Sheran Fonseka represented St. Joseph’s 1st XI cricket team and he scored 675 runs with fivehalf centuries. St. Joseph’s emerged the under 19 division One two day champions in the 2018/2019 season.

He represented St. Joseph’s team in the Battle of the Saints against St. Peter’s. He claimed 46 victims behind the wicket as Wicket keeper in the season.

Sheran Fonseka scored 1036 runs in 17 matches (27 innings) with 2 centuries and 8 half centuries (Ave. 49.33). His highest score 135 runs against St. Benedict’s College Kotahena. He scored 102 runs against Ananda College Colombo. He made eight half centuries against Zahira Colombo, Maris Stella Negombo, St. Sebastian’s Moratuwa, Royal Colombo, S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia, St. Anthony’s Katugastota and St. Anne’s Kurunegala.

Defending champions St. Joseph’s College Colombo advanced to the quarter final of the tournament.
